Challenge
In today’s world, businesses and communities are connected by intricate, multimodal networks that bring trade and travel closer together. The healthiest centers for livability and workability are those that plan, design, and integrate numerous modes of travel to offer a robust network of transportation options. Ports, cities, and industrial sites alike rely on the efficiency of these networks, where roads, rail lines, and marine corridors create greater connectivity between cities, states, provinces, and countries.
An important part of these networks is rail and transit infrastructure. Often considered the backbone to efficient travel, modern modes of rail and transit have become the focus of project owners, government officials, and community stakeholders. Rail and transit are key to unlocking congestion, maintaining efficient movement of goods and people, and exploring opportunities for sustainable and greener system design.
Capabilities
Integrated multimodal transport systems solutions
Our team of transportation and logistics experts has extensive experience in developing logistics projects, considering all transport modes (rail, road, conveyor, pipelines). In the public transport domain, we integrate between rail and road transportation systems, corridors, and feeder networks.
Rail corridor development
An effective corridor balances capacity with demand in a timely manner. This is achieved through a few key elements which our team employs: i) rail configuration; ii) maximization of infrastructure and rolling stock capacities; iii) implementation of effective operational methodologies and practices; and iv) proactive maintenance and sustainability strategies.
Technical (EPCM): design and implementation
We have technical experts in all disciplines of railway engineering and project implementation. We host capabilities to plan and implement operational best practices, and undertake dynamic simulation modelling utilizing a range of modern packages off the shelf and in-house-developed software.
Planning and Scheduling Rail Systems
Hatch Optimizer is a novel, detailed planning and scheduling tool. It optimizes complex rail systems with functionality that far exceeds the capabilities of commercial offerings. This decision-support system uses state-of-the-art Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) optimization techniques for planning and scheduling rail operations. Freight and passenger performance both improve, whether they're operating together in mixed-use corridors or separately. As well as optimizing detailed rail operations and potential network expansions, the modeling framework allows for seamless expansion into adjacent areas of your value chain, such as processing operations, yards, and terminals.
General freight
General freight rail corridors transport a multitude of commodities in different train configurations, running at different speeds, in a time and cost-efficient manner. Our clients have reaped the benefits of integrated and optimized solutions that we have developed in conjunction with operating staff and management teams.
Heavy haul
Our rail capability was founded on heavy haul rail systems. We understand that the key to success is maximizing throughput and profit, while minimizing cost and optimizing operations at mines, terminals, and on route. We have experience with state-of-the-art heavy haul technology, such as 40-ton designs, distributed power, ECP braking, and rapid loading and off-loading systems. We have global expertise and resources on numerous heavy haul applications.
